According to the calculations of Dionysius Exiguus in the year 525, we count our years "before" or "after” the birth of Christ. Whether he was wrong about some things, or based his work on wrong assumptions, is a matter of dispute. Nevertheless, this counting and listing of historical events has proven itself so well for over 1000 years, that it is now used globally.
In any case, we are gradually approaching the years in which it has been 2000 years since Jesus gathered adult disciples around him. He wandered with them through Galilee, Samaria and Judea and after about three years in Jerusalem, he was arrested, condemned and executed on the cross. Afterwards, his disciples experienced him as The Risen One.
In the Gospel of Matthew we find the last words of The Risen Christ to his disciples - in Greek: Matthätai; in German usually translated as "Jünger". This address reads:
"All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
It is well known that his disciples did their task and became teachers; their students in turn became themselves qualified to become teachers of others. In this fashion, the message of Jesus became known. People from the most diverse nations experienced the truth of Jesus' words and placed their trust in them. They were baptized, and usually their children, too. But many distractions have and still are preventing us from dealing more intensively with that which Jesus wants us to learn.
During the next few years leading up to the anniversaries, this website shall therefore be dedicated to his teaching as it was handed down to us in the four Gospels.
Using the key words above, regarding what we can learn from Jesus today, will take you to pages containing his Word from the Gospels and to texts that explain them for the present day. Usually, these are links to sermons and interpretations already published elsewhere on the Internet.
Anyone moved to do so is invited to enter their name and place of residence in the box on the left. It can be viewed by clicking on the phrase: "What we want to learn from Jesus ...".
The button "Participate" is located further down. We invite Christians speaking other languages to create webpages with the same layout and similar preaching notes in their own tongue. That will help bring us into contact with one another. Whether and how often this occurs, as well as other things, you will be able to view at the bottom left of this webpage.
By clicking top left on the years 2030, 2031, 2032 and 2033 you will arrive at pages which list events for those years in which plans already exist.
